Adam Schiff thought he was mocking Trump over California wildfires when … oops

Very quickly after Rep. Adam Schiff smugly tried to school President Donald Trump on the science behind the California wildfires, a journalist shredded his claims with facts.

A Wall Street Journal columnist called out the California Democrat after he slammed the president in a condescending tweet about his response to the wildfires raging in his state.

Trump seemed to blame “bad environmental laws” for the fires and called for the cutting down of trees to help stop the spread of the blazes in a tweet earlier this week.

And while Republican Rep. Devin Nunes thanked the president for pointing out the state’s “flawed environmental policies,” in a responding tweet, Schiff fired off a pompous response.

No sooner had the Democratic congressman and constant Trump critic tweet his challenge when he was challenged himself by The Wall Street Journal’s Kimberley Strassel.

“Allow me to help YOU, Mr. Schiff,” Strassel tweeted along with a link to documents from the state’s own USDA Forest Service and CAL FIRE disproving his claims. Dead trees in record numbers have actually contributed to the fire hazards, according to reports from last December.

“The USDA Forest Service today announced that an additional 27 million trees, mostly conifers, died throughout California since November 2016, bringing the total number of trees that have died due to drought and bark beetles to an historic 129 million on 8.9 million acres,” a news release from December 2017 read.

“The dead trees continue to pose a hazard to people and critical infrastructure, mostly centered in the central and southern Sierra Nevada region of the state,” the statement read.

Randy Moore of the USDA Forest Service was quoted in the news release saying the “USDA
Forest Service will continue to focus on mitigating hazard trees and thinning overly dense forests so they are healthier and better able to survive stressors like this in the future.”

Those statements sound very similar to what the president said in his tweet to begin with.
