Chaffetz says Rod Rosenstein signature may spark contempt of Congress before Thursday

Former Congressman Jason Chaffetz said Tuesday during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” that there’s a real possibility that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein may be held in contempt of Congress before the week’s out.

“The focal point of these so-called FISA documents includes a signature from Rod Rosenstein,” the Fox News contributor said. “And [Rep.] Mark Meadows makes the right point, which is: You’re doing an investigation that includes a signature line from Rod Rosenstein, how can [he] continue to be leading this investigation.”

With Attorney General Jeff Sessions recusing himself, Rosenstein oversees Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Meadows, who heads the House Freedom Caucus, is considering the introduction of a resolution to hold Rosenstein in contempt of Congress that may force a vote before the House begins a five-week recess on Thursday.

A driving factor is an accusation Rosenstein is stonewalling Congress in its attempt to obtain documents that may expose the origins of Russian collusion investigation.

“They know that the focal point of this was the so-called dossier,” Chaffetz said, before noting that Andrew McCabe, the former deputy director of the FBI, said they would not have gone forward with the FISA application that permitted surveillance on members of the Trump campaign if it wasn’t for the dossier.

Which was paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign.

When asked about if the Mueller probe will be allowed to run through the midterm elections, Chaffetz cited Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., to say, “You can’t continue on for years into this, you’re helping to tear apart the country.”

“We haven’t seen any evidence, and what is the so-called crime that was committed? he asked. “That’s what Rudy Giuliani talks about, what was the supposed crime?”
