A Harvard University employee was put on leave after she asked her neighbor if the neighbor lived “in one of the affordable units,” according to a Thursday announcement.
Harvard Humanitarian Initiative director Michael VanRooyen said that the group’s executive director, Theresa Lund, would be “on-leave, effective immediately,” reported The College Fix.
Lund had allegedly asked her neighbor, Alyson Laliberte, to move with her daughter to another area outside on Saturday so that Lund’s children could fall asleep, but Laliberte refused.
“Are you in one of the affordable units [or] one of the Harvard units?” Lund asked.
“Mind your business,” Laliberte replied.
Lund apologized on Monday, calling her reaction “inappropriate and wrong.”
“I wish to make clear that [the Harvard Humanitarian Institute] does not condone her conduct during the exchange with Alyson Laliberte and her family,” VanRooyen said on Facebook. “Today, I write to share that Ms. Lund will be on-leave, effective immediately.”
The director also said that its staff would be participating in “implicit and explicit bias” trainings.
