Sarah Sanders annihilates WaPo reporter with list of ‘tough’ actions taken against Russia

Expecting the onslaught, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders came loaded for [Russian] bear at Wednesday’s daily briefing, as Washington Post’s White House reporter Josh Dawsey learned the hard way.

Pointing to Russia’s annexation of Crimea and election meddling, Dawsey prefaced his question by suggesting that President Donald Trump “seems to have spent more time criticizing his predecessor, Barack Obama, for letting it happen” than Vladimir Putin, and then asked why the president “has not been more critical of Putin.”

“I think the president, as he has said many times before, has been tougher on Russia than anybody,” Sanders replied.

“I think you can see that in all of the actions that he has taken,” she continued. “Whether it was a plant that was closed due to aluminum and steel tariffs that were put in place by this president, the Treasury Department has issued new sanctions on numerous individuals and entities in Russia.”

And Sanders was just getting warmed up.

“The president has continued sanctions on Russia’s malicious cyber activity in response to election hacking,” she said. “We’ve expelled 60 Russian operatives from the United States and closed two consulates. President Trump issued four statements condemning Russia’s poisoning of U.K. citizens on U.K. soil.”

“[He] authorized the sale of lethal aid to Ukraine, authorized military strikes against the Assad regime in Syria and has repeatedly called out Russia’s actions, exporting energy to our allies in Eastern Europe.”

Having fully dismisses the suggested narrative that Trump has not been critical of Russia, Sanders then put a bow on it.

“Look,” she concluded, “the president has been extremely tough on Russia and to say anything different is just not true.”

Incidents where this has played out on the world stage have been minimally covered in the news, as seen when Russian mercenaries in Syria revealed how hard U.S. forces hit them.

Even Bloomberg reported on “scores” of Russian contract soldiers fighting on behalf of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad being killed by the US forces.
