Get a sense of humor: Trump ‘literally eclipsed’ her majesty and it’s best watched set to music

President Donald Trump’s meeting with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle has created a social media frenzy for what some are calling a royal faux-pas.

A collective gasp could be heard around the world as Trump momentarily stepped in front of the 92-year-old monarch at a ceremonial inspection of the Guard of Honor on Friday.

Reuters reported that Trump “halted abruptly” during the inspection, forcing Queen Elizabeth to walk around him.

The awkward moment created a brief second when the Queen seemed to disappear behind the president. The Washington Post declared that Trump “literally eclipsed” the Queen.

Naturally, Trump’s critics were quick to condemn him for his “disrespect” of walking ahead of the monarch, and earlier as he and First Lady Melania Trump greeted the Queen for the first time.

While the Trumps both shook Elizabeth’s hand, the president did not bow and Melania did not bow or curtsy. Though it appears to be royal protocol to do so, royal expert Marlene Koenig told  HarpersBAZAAR.com that there are exceptions.

“Americans do not curtsy or bow to foreign sovereigns,” Koenig explained. “Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister of Canada gave a little bob of head as the Queen is the Head of State of Canada. She is his Sovereign.”

Former President Barack Obama did not bow when he met the Queen in 2011 at the same location.

There was finger-wagging by Trump critics as well over the apparent tardiness of his arrival for hour-long visit with the Queen that included tea inside Windsor Castle.

No diplomatic damage appeared to have been done by Trump’s “mistep” but the moment provided endless replays on social media, including a popular version set to music from “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
