Major backlash when ABC greenlights Roseanne spinoff minus Roseanne. Hollywood double standard is sickening

ABC has decided to go ahead with a spinoff show of “Roseanne” without Roseanne Barr – and fans are not happy about it.

A 10-episode series, tentatively called  “The Conners,” has been given the go-ahead by ABC for the fall of 2018, airing in the same Tuesday 8 PM time slot where hit show “Roseanne” was scheduled before the network cancelled it and fired Barr, its star and executive producer, after controversial tweets.

“The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” ABC said in a statement.

Barr, who came under fire for a tweet calling former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and “Planet of the Apes.” Despite apologizing, Barr was dropped from her talent agency and ABC abruptly cancelled the network’s highest-rated show.

The new spinoff will have no input from Barr, instead continuing on with the rest of the  cast, after she reached a settlement with series producer Tom Werner to save the jobs of those involved with the show.

“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne,” Barr said in a statement. “I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”

But without its namesake character, the spinoff show is already creating controversy with fans who are adamant it will fail.

And many more are demanding to know why Barr, whose conservative character openly supported President Trump, was canned and a ratings hit show cancelled while actor Peter Fonda has reaped no consequences from Sony Pictures for his vulgar attack on Trump’s young son, Barron.

The 78-year-old actor called for the 12-year-old to be “ripped” from Melania’s arms and put in a cage “with pedophiles,” in tweets posted this week, prompting outrage on Twitter and calls for consequences.

The verdict – and death sentence – seems to already be in for the ABC spinoff of “Roseanne” without Barr.
