Tommy Robinson, a British activist and journalist who was arrested for reporting on a court case involving a Muslim gang raping a teenage girl, has written a letter from inside prison saying he fears for his life.

“[F]or a while now I’ve been sure that I will be murdered for opposing Islam. A scary thought. But not as scary as thinking it will make no difference,” Robinson wrote on Monday. “I’ve always said I’d sacrifice my life tomorrow if it would end the Islamic takeover of our beautiful land.”

Robinson worries about the reaction, or lack thereof, if he should be murdered for his position on Islam, citing the lack of action by the government after two Islamic terrorists beheaded a British soldier, Lee Rigby.

“Rigby was beheaded in 2013 and our government witnessed that a soldier can be beheaded and no one will really react,” he wrote. But Robinson says that his case is evidence that since the Rigby beheading the British people are more responsive to injustice.

Robinson was arrested on May 25 in London and charged with contempt of court for reporting on a court case involving a group of four Muslim men who allegedly groomed and raped a teenage girl. Robinson was given ten months for contempt of court and another three for violating his probation under which he was placed that prevented him from reporting on the case.

The judge that sentenced Robinson commanded a media gag order that prevented U.K. news from reporting on Robinson’s case until it was lifted it on May 29.

Robinson’s arrest sparked world wide outrage. Tens of thousands protest the next day on May 26 around the world in the U.S., Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, and of course the U.K. Half a million people signed a petition to free Robinson.

“In the first few days here I began to hear that thousands are protesting outside 10 Downing Street. This was within 24 hours of my abduction by the state. I was told ‘your petition has 100,000,’ then ‘hey its now at 300,000,’ and then half a million. I heard people were climbing the gates of Downing Street,” Robinson wrote. “I thought the people telling me must be getting it wrong. … I was completely unaware what was unfolding outside of the prison was a world wide FREE TOMMY movement.”

Thousands attended another ‘Free Tommy’ rally on June 9 and free speech activists have been busy trying to have Robinson released from prison ever since he was arrested.

Robinson is a controversial figure in the U.K. He is the former leader of the English Defense League (EDL), which it’s mission is to “to act, lead, and inspire in the struggle against global Islamification,” pointing to the sharp increase of Muslim immigrants in the past few years into the U.K.

The EDL has received criticism for its position against Islam and the British Criminology Conference described the group as being “Islamophobic” in 2010. Robinson left the group in 2013.

Robinson, who’s real name is Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, is a father of three. In his letter he laments not seeing his children or going on a 5k run with them.

“The prison removed my wife’s phone number over a week ago,” Robinson wrote, adding, “so I have not even been able to speak with my children, it also upsets me that in my son’s head he must think his dad has done something bad to end up in prison.”

Robinson, keeping his situation in perspective, still found the time to write about his admiration of the military men and women who sacrifice their lives for freedom.

“Before I sit and feel too sorry for myself I should put it into perspective,” he wrote. “I’m away from my family for a short duration. Members of our armed forces’ children must go through this all the time which is why I admire the sacrifices they make, past and present.”
