Ex-CNN host claims Jeff Zucker is ‘pretending’ to oppose Trump for ratings gold, but refuses to pony up

To mark the one year anniversary of when CNN stopped believing in his non-fiction series “Believer,” Iranian-American author Reza Aslan took to Twitter to rip network boss Jeff Zucker a new one.

But, the interesting part of Aslan’s attack is he claims Zucker is only “pretending” to oppose President Donald Trump.

His show was canceled not long after Aslan called Trump “a piece of sh*t” on Twitter, which was a response to the president’s reaction to terrorist attacks on London as he looked to impose a “travel ban” from certain Middle East countries.

“1 year ago today Jeff Zucker @CNN canceled my show Believer during its second season-refusing to pay me or my staff their due wages-because I tweeted that Trump was a piece of shit for using London terror attack to push his Muslim ban. I haven’t changed my opinion of either man,” Aslan tweeted.

In addition to commenting on Zucker “refusing to pay me or my staff,” Aslan claimed in a response to a social media user Zucker “made a fortune” off Trump while at NBC and “he’s now making a fortune pretending to oppose Trump.”

As head of NBC Entertainment, Zucker gave Trump his start in reality TV with “The Apprentice.”

“Let’s be clear about this: Jeff Zucker made a fortune creating Donald Trump at NBC; he made a fortune getting Trump elected with a billion dollars in free airtime; and he’s now making a fortune pretending to oppose Trump at CNN,” Aslan tweeted.

All of which would suggest that Zucker may be more responsible for Trump being in the White House than anyone.

Here’s a sampling of other reactions from Twitter:
