Fox News’ Peter Doocy surprises colleague-dad on-air with weird Father’s Day gift and touching message

Fox News’ Steve Doocy had a morning filled with surprises at the White House.

The “Fox & Friends” host scrambled to welcome on air President Trump who decided to make an impromptu visit across the White House lawn on Friday. But Doocy was also surprised by a more heartwarming visit by his son.

Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy surprised his dad with a pre-Father’s Day visit and a gift while cameras were rolling.

“It is Father’s Day and we get very busy in Washington, so I didn’t have a ton of time to shop,” the younger Doocy said.  “But I got you something that you could only get here at the White House downstairs – this is so cool. It is a whole sleeve –“

“You couldn’t wrap it?!” his father asked, taking the cardboard box from his hands.

“I did not have time,” Peter replied.

“Let me open it on TV for the folks,” the elder Doocy suggested, while his son agreed.

“Okay, yes please. No other dad is getting this right now,” he said excitedly. “It’s a whole sleeve of John Roberts’ business cards!”

“It’s John Roberts’ business cards,” Steve repeated.

“So now you’ve got his cell, and you’ve got his office number and his email,” his son said.

“Okay. You know Peter, that is great. I’m hoping Sally and Mary do a better job with their Father’s Day gift – thank you,” Steve said before asking what his son was doing there at the White House.

“You leave at 9 and I’ll pick up the rest of the day,” Peter replied, after explaining that he was working.

Back at the “Fox & Friends” studio, co-host Ainsley Earhardt asked Peter if he had a special message for his father.

“Yes, Dad. Thank you for always doing everything that you can to make sure that me and my sisters have everything that we need and always have to do well,” Peter said.

“Thank you, Peter,” his father replied.

“Love you, Dad,” Peter said.

“Love you. I would like to give you this remote to the TV,” Steve joked.

The “Fox & Friends” co-host posted a photo of himself with his son to his Instagram account, with the caption: “Had a pretty memorable Father’s Day Friday at the White House with the kid who used to live upstairs at our house.”

At the end of his interview with Doocy, Trump remarked on the father and son resemblance.

“This is definitely your son. By the way, I looked at him. Hey, I look at him. There’s no question. That’s your son,” Trump told the Fox News host.

“Very kind of you, Mr. President,” the elder Doocy said. “Thank you very much.”
