President Donald Trump weighed in on the Missouri Senate race to call incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill a “phony” amid the controversy over an alleged RV tour of the state.
Trump also endorsed Republican state Attorney General Josh Hawley, McCaskill’s likely opponent in November.
“Senator Claire McCaskill of the GREAT State of Missouri flew around in a luxurious private jet during her RV tour of the state,” the president tweeted. “RV’s are not for her. People are really upset, so phony! Josh Hawley should win big, and has my full endorsement.”

RV-gate was the result of The Washington Free Beacon reporting that the senator had promoted a “Veterans for Claire” tour last month, with McCaskill saying she was “very excited to hit the road.”
The campaign event was advertised as a 3 day tour aboard an RV named “Big Blue.”
Very excited to hit the road next week in this. Names anyone for the RV? We are off on a “Veterans for Claire” tour on Tuesday morning. pic.twitter.com/XihjI71AjV

“But public flight information indicates that travel also occurred on her million-dollar private plane,” the Free Beacon noted.
McCaskill initially said the report was “not accurate,” according to Politico, but she eventually came clean, taking care to stress that she did spend time on the RV.
“I added some stops with the use of the plane, but I was on the RV so much that the broken drawer drove me crazy,” the Democratic lawmaker said Tuesday. “I even lost an iPad around a corner on the RV.”
Hawley was adept enough to take advantage of the suddenly favorable political winds, responding to the president’s tweet.
“It’s time to send partisan, phony [Claire McCaskill] packing!” Hawley tweeted.

But then, McCaskill has a history of being a phony, as seen last year when she was adamant that she had never met with the Russian ambassador to the US, only to have it blow up in her face when her own previous tweets showed this to be untrue.

Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino called McCaskill out for the deception in a spot on NRA-TV.
“The private jet tour doesn’t exactly sound as womanly of the people as the RV tour does, but Claire McCaskill you’re busted…this is about as phony as I’ve ever seen,” he said.
McCaskill’s seat could be critical to whether Republicans can maintain their razor-thin majority in the Senate. Trump won Missouri by nearly 20 points in 2016 and the GOP has this race as one of its top priorities.
National Republican Senate Committee Executive Director Chris Hanson could not resist the urge to have a little fun with McCaskill’s deceptive “RV tour.”
“Live look at Claire McCaskill’s RV tour,” Hanson tweeted, along with a video clip of the Democrat boarding her private plane.

Part and parcel of the new world order called “democrat-socialism” only the elite get the perks upon request. They’ll keep getting them as long as they keep lying to the public to get re-elected. Aren’t they special! https://t.co/lgugnaeIOg

To recap, in 2012 Senator McCaskill was caught not paying taxes on her plane. Then she was caught improperly billing taxpayers for flights. Then she claimed that she would tell her husband to "sell the damn plane." And now today – https://t.co/wBFS2ouNBp
