For the first time in nearly a decade, the number of households on food stamps dropped to below 20 million.
Apparently the winning continues under President Trump as the latest data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture indicated that the number of households on food stamps in February 2018 dropped to 19,992,124.
This figure represent the first time the numbers have dropped below the 20 million mark since September 2010, when 19,979,385 households were enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Breitbart reported.
Former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, Herman Cain, attributes the drop in number to the fact that Trump has “created a job for everybody that wants to work.”
“A lot of people that were on food stamps, they wanted the dignity of work. So they went back to work,” Cain said, adding that the “narrow lens of the liberal media” will probably not be reporting the record news.
The low level is not only a record in number of households but the number of people enrolled in food stamps has also declined. Overall food stamp enrollment decreased from 40,640,170 to 40,032,131 just from January to February 2018.
According to Breitbart:
Under Trump, 2.2 million fewer people have discontinued their participation in SNAP, mainly due to the Trump administration’s attempts to reform the food stamp program by keeping the program’s cost down at the state and federal levels.
The USDA announced in March that it hired an “integrity officer” to bolster the administration’s efforts to prevent fraud in the country’s SNAP program and announced in February the rollout of its “Harvest Box” program to give food stamp recipients a box of food as part of their monthly benefits package.
The Trump administration has pushed to require recipients to work in order to receive benefits but the Senate version of the 2018 Farm Bill which was released last week does not include these work requirements.
A record one in five American households were on food stamps in 2013, according to USDA data, which revealed that the numbers had increased to that 20 percent level under former President Obama. The cost of the SNAP program was also at an all-time high.
The Obama administration had even used a Spanish soap opera format to convince illegal immigrants and Spanish-speaking Americans to get on the food stamp program.
Thanks to President Trump, it seems those days are over.

Unlike Obama, Trump measures success by how many people get OFF government assistance, not sign up for government benefits!
