President Donald Trump has arrived in Singapore, where he will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Air Force One landed at Singapore’s Paya Lebar Air Base at 8:30 p.m., a few hours after the arrival of the North Korean leader.

The historic summit, expected to be held Tuesday morning, has been three-months in the making. Trump accepted an invitation to meet Kim in early March, and since then, diplomatic officials on both sides have worked tirelessly to prepare for this landmark geopolitical event. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made two trips to Pyongyang to lay the groundwork for this meeting.
Trump suddenly canceled the summit last month in response to a series of critical comments by North Korean officials; however, a flurry of diplomatic activity, which involved meetings at the inter-Korean border, in Singapore, and even in the U.S. managed to get the summit back on track. A personal hand-written note from the North Korean leader sealed the deal, convincing Trump to save the scrapped summit.
The focus of the meeting is peace in exchange for North Korean denuclearization. Trump has made it clear that this is Kim’s only shot.
“I feel that Kim Jong Un wants to do something great for his people,” the president said Saturday, “And he has that opportunity, and he won’t have that opportunity again.”
