It didn’t take President Trump too long to question and call out a CNN reporter at the G7 summit in Canada.
Trump took some questions from reporters before he left the conference in Charlevoix on Saturday and as one reporter’s angle became clear in his question, the president interrupted.
“As you are heading into these G7 talks there’s a sense that America’s closest allies are frustrated with you and angry with you and that you are angry with them and that you are leaving here to go meet with more friendlier talks with Kim Jong-Un in Singapore and I was wondering if you view it the same way?” the reporter asked. “And do you view the US alliance system shifting under your presidency?”
“Who are you with, out of curiosity?” Trump asked.
When the response was “CNN,” the president unloaded.
“I figured, fake news CNN. The worst,” he said. “But, I had no idea you’re with CNN. After the question I was just curious who you’re with. You’re with CNN.”
Trump went on to defend his relationship with the other leaders present at the summit in Canada.
“I would say that the level of the relationship is a 10. We have a great relationship,” he said, naming Germany’s Angela Merkel, France’s Emmanuel Macron and Canada’s Justin Trudeau by first name.
“I would say the relationship is a 10,” he repeated, and said he did not blame them but past U.S. leadership “for allowing this to happen” as he noted unfair trade deficits between the U.S. and other nations.
Trump doubled down on the need for fairer trade agreements and vowed the U.S. would not deal with nations which refused to make beneficial changes, while he reiterated that his relationship with the other leaders is “great.”
“You can tell that to your fake friends at CNN,” he told the reporter.
The president was leaving the G7 summit early to head to Singapore for his historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday.
Twitter users agreed that CNN got what they deserved for not posing a genuine question.
CNN producer asks Trump about his relationship with the other G-7 leaders. Trump says his relationships with them are “a 10.” Adds: “The relationship that I’ve had is great. You can tell that to your fake friends at CNN.”

The producers question was basically saying he gets along better with NK than our allies. It was not a genuine question, CNN was being a smartass and they got it right back to them. It was #FakeNewsCNN

Greatest response ever! So much winning.

The way the question was framed from CNN, Trump knew it was them. LOL! Can’t deny the bias.

We heard the lead-in to the #FakeNewsCNN question… They deserved to be put in the corner. It’s not only petty to downplay the importance of the trip to Singapore, it’s also reckless given CNN’s worldwide audience. Trump’s response was warranted.

That was the most amazing thing I have ever heard! #MAGA
