Tensions flare after QVC-HSN merge; stars ‘in shock’ over insulting, condescending memo

The merging of archrival shopping channels QVC and HSN has caused some dissension over a “condescending and disrespectful” email that was circulated last week.

Longtime HSN staffers are not taking kindly to an email from executive Gordie Daniels which put forth a new set of “do’s and don’ts” for on-camera personalities, according to Page Six.

On-air guests at HSN reportedly feel that QVC is “taking over, memo-by-memo,” as it changes rules and guidelines rather than just merging, sources told Page Six.

“I want everyone to take the used car salesman, in your face delivery and throw it out if this pertains to you,” Daniels wrote in the email sent to dozens of HSN stars. “Act and carry yourself in a professional manner on and off air.”

“Research your product.,” he advised. “Don’t make false claims. Again, this is a new direction and we need to build credibility.”

QVC, which launched in 1986, acquired its rival shopping channel HSN in 2017. The Home Shopping Network, which is based in Florida, launched ahead of its former competitor in 1985 though it had operated as the Home Shopping Club since 1982.

HSN, home of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano, had some unhappy employees on hand – some of whom have been with the network for decades – following Daniels’ email.

“Gordie we have not met but I must tell you in the 25 years in business I never received nor have even seen a note as condescending and disrespectful as this,” one guest responded.

“I am still in shock,” another guest, who’s been on the channel for 10 years, replied. “I can assure you that I know my product very well, as I am about to celebrate my 25th year in business.”

A representative for HSN told Page Six that Daniels’ email “was not authorized, reviewed or approved for distribution,” and added, “We see the HSN and QVC cultures as very complementary.”

The company president, Mike Fitzharris, also issued an apology, according to the publication.
