As more and more evidence suggests the US intelligence apparatus under President Barack Obama actively spied on President Donald Trump’s campaign, Fox News host Laura Ingraham said she’s trust liberal blabbermouth Joy Behar more with national intelligence that former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
In a segment featuring former Republican speaker Newt Gingrich, the former Obama administration nominee’s appearance on “The View” was discussed — Clapper said he didn’t lie under oath when he said a NSA surveillance program did not target law-abiding citizens, claiming he “made a mistake” in saying that because he was confused about which program was being discussed.
Ironically, Clapper added that he didn’t like using the term “spying,” which struck a nerve with Gingrich.
Gingrich said that after knowing Clapper for years, he’s “astounded at how bad he looks now” and how “dishonest and incompetent he looks.”
(What’s being missed is the fact that Clapper appearing in the friendly confines of the very liberal ABC show — where he’s warmly received — may say all one needs to know about his credibility.)
“He was a great public servant for many, many years,” he said. “But when the director — former director of intelligence tells you he doesn’t like to use the word ‘spying’… I mean think about it. He was the Director of National Intelligence! What do you think he was in charge of doing?!? He was in charge of spying!”
Gingrich then offered what may be the most plausible explanation to date of what was going under Obama’s tutelage.
“I think what happened was people like Clapper and the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency [John Brennan], all these guys thought they could get away with this because Hillary [Clinton] was gonna win and when Hillary won the fix would be in, everything will be covered up,” he said.
“And around 10 o’clock on election night,” Gingrich added, “they all began to realize this could get really bad and they were shifting gears from protecting Hillary, which had been their job for two years, to trying to destroy Trump.”
He said many of these individuals are now in danger of “going to jail.”
Ingraham pointed out these “are like the most important people in our intelligence,” adding that Clapper “sounds like a bunch of bumbling idiot.”
“Joy Behar, look, I trust her more with the national intelligence at this point than I would Jim Clapper,” she declared.
