Canadian country singer Shania Twain apologized for saying she would have voted for President Donald Trump amid volcanic backlash from “tolerant” liberals.

Twain issued the groveling apology on Twitter one day after she revealed that she’s politically conservative and would have supported President Trump because she respects his forthrightness and refusal to cave into politically correct pandering.

Twain wrote on Twitter:

“I would like to apologize to anybody I have offended in a recent interview with the Guardian relating to the American President. The question caught me off guard. As a Canadian, I regret answering this unexpected question without giving my response more context.

I am passionately against discrimination of any kind and hope it’s clear from the choices I have made, and the people I stand with, that I do not hold any common moral beliefs with the current President.

I was trying to explain, in response to a question about the election, that my limited understanding was that the President talked to a portion of America like an accessible person they could relate to, as he was NOT a politician.

My answer was awkward, but certainly should not be taken as representative of my values nor does it mean I endorse him. I make music to bring people together. My path will always be one of inclusivity, as my history shows.

I am passionately against discrimination of any kind and hope it’s clear from the choices I have made, and the people I stand with, that I do not hold any common moral beliefs with the current President (2/4)

The brouhaha erupted after Shania Twain confessed in an April 22 Guardian interview that she would have voted for Donald Trump if she had been able to vote in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Twain is a Canadian citizen, so she cannot vote in a U.S. election (although that never seems to stop some crooked Democrats).

Twain explained her Trump support like this:

“I would have voted for him because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullsh*t. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?”

Predictably, Twain was viciously attacked by angry Twitter trolls simply because she holds a different political viewpoint than they do.

One “tolerant liberal” fumed: “Shania Twain says she supports Donald Trump. Is she a deranged racist traitor, or is she just really stupid?”

Another sanctimonious leftist bloviated: “Stop offering grace to “benign” whiteness. We all saw it. She still chooses hatred.”

Obviously, Shania apologized and backpedaled because she doesn’t want to alienate her fan base, but she doesn’t realize that the trolls who attacked her for supporting Trump were probably never her fans to begin with.

The vast majority of country-music singers and fans are Republicans, and many are vocal Trump supporters. Case in point: Country music star John Rich of the duo Big & Rich is a Trump supporter who performed at his inaugural gala.

Ever heard of country music legends Loretta Lynn, Larry Gatlin, Trace Adkins, Kenny Rogers, and Kid Rock? They’re all Trump supporters too.

Whenever a celebrity/performer takes a political stand, they’re making a calculated decision about which part of their fan base they think they can afford to alienate. In Shania Twain’s case, she’ll find out soon enough that slamming President Trump when you’re a country-music star is a bad business move.

While most of show business is liberal, there are numerous silent conservatives who win loyal fans for supporting the president they voted for. Look at Roseanne Barr, a former liberal who’s now an unabashed Trump supporter. Barr enjoyed record-high ratings for her “Roseanne” revival when it returned to TV after a 10-year hiatus.

The first episode of the “Roseanne” reboot scored a staggering 21.9 million total viewers, making it the highest-rated TV show in four years. On the show, Barr’s onscreen character is a Trump supporter — just like Roseanne is in real life.

Take that, Shania. And good luck getting your Canadian fans to buy as much country music as Americans do. According to a Billboard survey, there are about 95 million country music fans in the United States. Many are Trump supporters. By comparison, the entire population of Canada is 38 million, and country music accounted for only 10 percent of all album sales in 2015.
