Gun-toting fmr NFL star faces backlash for daughter’s prom photo – he handles it in worst way possible

America truly has lost its sense of humor, as seen when former NFL kicker Jay Feely tweeted a photo of himself over the weekend standing between his daughter and her prom date, holding — egad! — a firearm.

Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich appeared Sunday on “Fox & Friends” to point out the obvious, that the photo “is the oldest dad joke in the entire world.”

“I think people are reacting to this in a way that’s overly sensitive and they just need to relax,” Pavlich said.

“It’s a joke. He’s not using the gun inappropriately,” she added. “His finger is out of the trigger well. It’s a joke that Dads have been making for centuries, ‘I’m gonna give my shotgun if you touch my daughter.'”

Feely, now a CBS football analyst, was having a little fun at a time when the country is hypersensitive about gun ownership.

It’s abundantly clear the daughter and her date — and longtime boyfriend — are in on the joke.

“Wishing my beautiful daughter and her date a great time at prom,” Feely tweeted, adding the hashtag #BadBoys.

Liberal America responded by getting their collective panties in a wad over what was intended as a joke, as Feely would later explain in a separate tweet, noting that the gun was not loaded and there was no clip in it.

The former NFL kicker tweeted: “The prom picture I posted was obviously intended to be a joke. My Daughter has dated her boyfriend for over a year and they knew I was joking. I take gun safety seriously (the gun was not loaded and had no clip in) and I did not intend to be insensitive to that important issue.”

The overreaction to the photo is an indication of how successful the left has been in demonizing guns in the face of a growing number of mass shootings, as opposed to holding the gunmen responsible for their actions.

Here’s a sample of reactions from both sides of the issue from Twitter:

As for Feely’s apology/explanation, noted gun grabber Shannon Watts applauded the gesture. Watts is with Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun control organization backed by billionaire Michael Bloomberg.

“Guns are not toys or props,” she tweeted. “Especially in a nation suffering from a gun homicide, suicide and negligent shooting crisis. Kudos for apologizing.”

But, as more than one person stressed, Feely has nothing to apologize for.
