Jonathan Turley calls Comey’s actions ‘inexcusable,’ blasts him for doing ‘untold harm’ to FBI

George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley ripped former FBI director James Comey, saying his actions are “inexcusable” and that he has done “untold harm” to the bureau.

Appearing on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” the constitutional law professor followed up on his op-ed, where he said “Comey is selling himself with the vigor of Kardashians and the viciousness of a Trump.”

“I think that many career people at the Justice Department must really find this quite repulsive,” Turley said of Comey’s shady memoir. “The very notion of a former FBI director writing a tell-all book is a virtual contradiction in terms.”

He said FBI directors “have valued their circumspection” because they need to have the trust of the president, but Comey “has really destroyed that.”

“It is not just a book,” Turley said. “It is not just the tenor, but the timing. The fact that he rushed this book out is inexcusable.”

“He was the head of this investigation and is now one of the witnesses,” he said in reference to the ongoing Russian collusion probe. “Nobody would suggest that this book is benefiting the investigation. To the contrary, he is undermining his role as a witness.”

Turley then delved into motives and it didn’t bear too well for Comey, who is already being eviscerated on social media.

“The question is why is he doing it, and the answer is rather obvious,” he said. “He is going to make a lot of money.”

“But he is also going to do untold harm to the institution he once headed.”

A sentiment echoed by CNN security correspondent Jamie Gangel, who said Friday there are concerns among former high-ranking sources that the fired FBI director’s schoolgirl behavior might damage the bureau’s prestige.

“I’ve talked to quite a few former FBI high-ranking sources. They are not happy about this because they feel it crosses the line of professionalism,” she told CNN host Wolf Blitzer. “They are worried about their reputation.”
