MSNBC pundit Joy Reid celebrated the holiest day in Christianity by providing a platform to an atheist Trump-hater who trashed Fox News host Laura Ingraham for “betraying” Jesus.
“That’s where we are this Easter morning,” liberal activist Frank Schaeffer said on AM Joy. “We are in a moment of betrayal of the teaching of Jesus.”
Schaeffer made the remarks while responding to Reid’s question about why President Trump enjoys such tremendous support among evangelical Christians “despite all of his flaws.”
That’s when Schaeffer, the author of “Why I Am An Atheist Who Believes In God,” chimed in to trash both Trump and Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
“Conservative Roman Catholics like Laura Ingraham — look at her, she’s a convert to Catholicism and here we are in Holy Week, culminating in Easter, and she chooses this time to mock a teenager who stood up against gun violence,” Schaeffer said.
“Look at the fall she has taken, now a poster child for imitating Donald Trump’s ugly intolerance! Imagine that, in Holy Week. We are in a moment of betrayal of the teaching of Jesus. We have an arrogant president who disrespects people and those who follow him are now imitating this vile behavior in Holy Week.”
Schaeffer was referencing a tweet Ingraham had posted where she responded to teen anti-gun activist David Hogg, who lamented that he had been rejected by several colleges.
Ingraham tweeted: “Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it. (Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA…totally predictable given acceptance rates.)”
Hogg — who viciously trashes conservative teens and adults on Twitter — whined that Ingraham had bullied him, and pressured advertisers to dump her show. Many corporations dutifully relented to the teen, even though Ingraham apologized to him.
Joy Reid cheerfully nodded in approval of Frank’s Schaeffer sanctimonious comments, where he was judging another Christian over whether she’s pious enough in his opinion.
For a self-proclaimed “Christian,” Frank Schaeffer obviously doesn’t remember Jesus’ own exhortation to his followers, which was: “Judge not, lest you be judged.” (Matthew 7:1). In today’s parlance, that means: Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
What does Schaeffer think about Joy Reid’s homophobic rants? Are they Christian-like?
1/x From 2007 to 2009 @joyannreid authored a dozen homophobic posts not only attempting to out Charlie Crist as gay, she attacked & mocked him for being so.
She repeatedly referred to him as "Miss Charlie" and tagged posts about him under "gay politicians." (thread) pic.twitter.com/tRYvJ3lTc8
