Mark Levin calls for Mitch McConnell to resign amid ‘shocking and disgusting’ corruption allegations

Mitch McConnell is in hot water.

On the Wednesday edition of his radio program, conservative Mark Levin said he was “damn serious” about his call for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to resign over “disgusting” corruption allegations arising from a new book by “Clinton Cash” author Peter Schweizer.

Levin referred to a New York Post article that detailed alleged findings from Schweizer’s book, “Secret Empires,” which takes a look at the “money-making machinations” of McConnell, Joe Biden, John Kerry, and other members of the “political elite.”

The Post cited Schweizer as claiming that the net worth of McConnell and his wife, current US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, grew from $3.1 million to between $9.2 million and $36.5 million today.

According to Schweizer, McConnell’s fortune may be linked to Chinese ties he has through his wife, whose father, James Chao, runs a shipping company closely aligned with China’s government.

The Post’s Larry Getlen wrote:

“When Senator McConnell — who took hardline positions against China prior to his marriage — met with high-ranking Chinese officials in 1994, it was not in his capacity as senator, but via a personal invitation from the CSSC arranged by James Chao. McConnell met with Zemin, then the country’s president, and vice-premiere Li Lanqing. After this meeting, McConnell ‘would increasingly avoid public criticism of China.’ More meetings like it would follow in the years to come.”

The article related McConnell’s softening stance on China over the years, including his defense of China against Hong Kong and Taiwan.

A 1999 bill pledging US support for Taiwan independence had “twenty-one co-sponsors and heavy Republican support. But McConnell was not on the list.”

Schweizer labeled inappropriate business dealings by the family of politicians “corruption by proxy,” the practice of “exploiting family and business ties to enrich themselves and their relatives.”

Levin called the allegations “absolutely shocking and disgusting.”

Referring to McConnell, Biden, and the other politicians named in Schweizer’s book, the conservative radio host lamented:

“America is getting weaker and poorer as a result, and they dare to attack this president and his family?”

“Somebody should ask Mitch McConnell and Elaine Chao about collusion,” he added. “When you have all these activities going on . People are self dealing and yet they do it in a way where they can deny it–this kills a republic.”

Levin said the corruption being alleged is “unconscionable.”

He concluded:

“Mitch McConnel should be removed … as Senate Majority Leader and there ought to be an ethics investigation into his background. And I am damn serious about it.”
