A 19-year-old is mad pop singer Katy Perry kissed him during American Idol auditions. “I wanted to save it for my first relationship,” the teen told The New York Times Wednesday.

It was “uncomfortable,” Benjamin Glaze said after getting his first kiss ever from American Idol judge Perry Sunday, The New York Times reported. The kiss was broadcasted on live TV. Glaze would have refused if he’d been asked ahead of time, he said

“I wanted it to be special,” Glaze said. He turned 20 since getting his awkward first kiss from the singer. Many guys would be excited for the 33-year-old to kiss them, but he was raised to believe you should only kiss someone you’re in a relationship with, Glaze said.

Country singer and American Idol judge Luke Bryan prompted Glaze’s embarrassing first kiss when he asked the teen if he ever “kissed a girl and liked it,” alluding to Perry’s famous 2008 song.

Glaze had not since he’s never been in a relationship, he replied. The judges egged Glaze on to go over and kiss Perry. Glaze thought the kiss would be on the cheek.

“You didn’t even make the ‘smush’ sound,” Perry taunted and forcibly kissed him on the lips.

Glaze later did not make the cut, which Perry blamed on the fact his heartbeat sped up too much from getting the opportunity to kiss her.

The kiss did not really count since it was not a “romantic situation,” the American Idol contestant said.

Perry faced backlash on social media after kissing the teen. It was inappropriate in wake of the “#MeToo” movement, many Twitter users said, according to the Huffington Post.
