Geraldo defends curious selfie with ‘accomplished young couple’ Ivanka and Jared

Geraldo Rivera may get a lot wrong, but when he’s right–he’s right.

The eccentric news personality staunchly defended Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner on Monday, calling them “accomplished young people” and saying of the First Daughter: “She’s so noble and she’s so efficient and so effective.”

Rivera went on Fox News’ “Hannity” in the evening to talk about his visit with Ivanka Trump at the White House on Monday, the same day Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stopped by to meet with the president.

The former “Geraldo at Large” host had teased his “Hannity” appearance with a tweet earlier Monday that featured a selfie of himself, Trump, and Kushner in the West Wing.

“Spent a nice afternoon with #Ivanka & #JaredKushner two accomplished young people who only want the best for @realDonaldTrump & the country, but they work in a nest of snitches, vipers & rats AKA the #WestWing,” Rivera wrote.

Hannity expressed amazement that the two White House senior advisers would spend time with Rivera.

“Why would Ivanka and Jared meet with you?” he asked.

“Two weeks ago, I was at Mar-a-Lago at the invitation of the president, and I was with every other member of the family, with whom I was very close,” Rivera explained. “Ivanka and I did ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ together, so she reached out and said ‘come on down and have some tea.'”

Hannity went on to approve of the Twitter selfie. “This is such a better selfie than what I’m used to. It’s so much better,” he said, and gave Rivera a congratulatory fist bump.

The conversation then turned toward the political climate in the nation’s capital.

“You were talking about all the people in DC that are horrible,” Hannity contended. “Not the administration.”

“Absolutely,” Rivera agreed, before diving into praise for the young Trump.

“And she is so noble and she is so efficient and so effective. And she wants the best for the county. She wants the best for her dad. And I am 100 percent behind her. I think that she and Jared are nice. The kids are settled. They have a nice home.”

Hannity closed by describing Washington politics as “blood brutal, dirty, outrageous business. It’s hard.”

The New York Times last week reported the claim that President Trump asked Chief of Staff John Kelly to help him remove his daughter and Kushner from the White House amid the latter having his security clearance revoked.

Ivanka Trump has remained a popular member of the administration and Trump family, recently leading the US delegation at the closing ceremony for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
