NY Dem running for Congress nailed for ‘creepy’ comments on teen gymnast … and she’s not just any teen gymnast

A Democratic candidate running for Congress in New York, by his own admission, posted “creepy” comments about a 16-year-old gymnast on social media as he talked about being smitten by the teen.

Suraj Patel, a hotel executive, was joking about his attraction to gold medal gymnast McKayla Maroney, who was 16 at the time, with a female friend on Facebook in 2012, the New York Post reported.

Patel, on the left, is seen in the photo below posing with President Barack Obama.

Patel posted a photo of himself with Maroney in August 2012, along with the caption: “We went to Top Shop. I bought a promise ring. Then they tried to arrest me.”

“If this happens with McKayla Maroney . . . you can’t fault me, you know? Sorry … you knew the deal,” he added, according to The Post.

Patel is running against incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney in New York’s 12th Congressional District.

A female friend replied, “She’s only 16!”

“I told her she should come to New York,” Patel then said, “because we have a top shop there on Broadway, haha, that may have crossed the creepy line by a little.”

In a separate post, he linked to a Buzzfeed article that included a photo of Maroney.

“She’s so jacked, btw,” Patel said of the child.

And if the fascination with a teen gymnast wasn’t creepy enough at a time when a focus on sexual abuse is paramount, the Democrat’s response to a story that actor John Stamos had a fling with a 17-year-old will make your skin crawl — the story would prove to be false.

“Dude, she was 17 — that’s not that bad. Have mercy!,” Patel wrote.
