Delta Airlines isn’t backing down from cutting ties with the National Rifle Association (NRA), despite Georgia lawmakers scrapping tax benefits from the company over its decision.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian said the Atlanta company would not rescind its cancellation of discounts for those with an NRA membership, HuffPost reported Friday.

“Our objective in removing any implied affiliation with the NRA was to remove Delta from this debate. Our decision was not made for economic gain and our values are not for sale. We are in the process of a review to end group discounts for any group of a politically divisive nature,” Bastain said in a statement.

Georgia lawmakers passed a bill Thursday that removed a tax break on jet fuel from an overall tax bill that would have saved Delta almost $40 million. The outgoing Republican Gov. Nathan Deal said he signed it to give taxpayers a break, while Georgia Republicans said they did it to send a message to the airline company.

“I have tremendous respect and admiration for Governor Nathan Deal, and thank him for the work he has done on the jet fuel tax exemption. He is a great friend to Delta. I know this action by the state legislature troubled him as it does all of us,” Bastain added.

Many companies have followed suit in cutting ties with the NRA after a gunman opened fire on a Florida high school.
