Immigration officers are receiving pushback from California politicians.
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaff on Saturday issued a press release warning about an upcoming raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement–effectively giving illegal aliens in the city a heads-up.

Schaaf sent out a mass news alert at 9pm, warning the city that the ICE operation would be “starting soon, as within the next 24 hours,” KTVU reported.
“Earlier today, I learned from multiple credible sources that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is preparing to conduct an operation in the Bay Area, including Oakland, starting as soon as within the next 24 hours,” the press release read.
The mayor claimed her intention was “not to panic our residents but to protect them.”

Schaaf called Oakland “a city of law-abiding immigrants and families who deserve to live free from the constant threat of arrest and deportation,” and said she planned to protect the community’s “most vulnerable.”
She also asserted that state and local entities would not cooperate with ICE.
“In Oakland, OUSD public schools have strict protocols in place to protect our students and families. Oakland police officers are prohibited from participating in ICE activities.
“Additionally, California state law prohibits business owners from assisting ICE agents in immigration enforcement and bars federal agents from accessing employee-only areas.”

Immigration officials captured four people in San Francisco on Sunday, the San Francisco Examiner reports. According to KTVU, ICE conducted audits at businesses in the Bay Area earlier this month to ensure only legal workers were being hired.
On Saturday, ICE told KGO-TV it was unsure what Schaaf could be referring to, as “there are ICE operations every day.”
Schaaf, a Democrat who is up for reelection this year, has previously been critical of the Trump administration’s positions on immigration.
In January, she told KTVU that she would be willing to go to jail over her city’s sanctuary policies and said, “It is no surprise that the bully in chief is continuing to try to intimidate our most vulnerable residents.”
Let me be clear, regarding @nytimes story, the most dangerous place in America is Donald Trump's mouth.

Schaaf’s warning regarding the ICE raid received heated opposition.
How is you’re actions protecting Americans? #KateSteinle
If you took an Oath to protect Americans and you refuse to do so. Please step down ?— Jen?? (@Sumergirl84) February 25, 2018
You should be worried about the “panic” you cause legal American citizens, obvious you care nothing about their safety @ICEgov

Isn’t CA great even our elected officials break the law. It’s a buffet here pick and choose what laws you abide by and eff the rest. A mess!

This has got to stop. All you are teaching is laws don’t matter.. So what happens the next time one of your constituents breaks the law and they use you as a defense… Slippery Slope…

How can you claim to be law abiding? How is this representing your constuents? Are illegal immigrants responsible for you being elected to office? We are a nation of laws. Some we may like some we may not. However we must ALL abide by them. The legislature is for changing them.

You would think reasonable people could agree on deporting illegal aliens that have committed other crimes..you guys defy logic
— Mark Thomson (@markthomson50) February 26, 2018
It is disappointing when our government officials won’t even protect the safety of the residence of Americans who were born here or legally came here!

Madam Mayor: You said that you would “go to jail” to protect illegal criminals (one’s being prioritized by ICE) – well, I think it is time someone calls your bluff for obstructing justice and hindering prosecution. @TheJusticeDept @realDonaldTrump
