Well… there is a ring of truth to it.
Laura Ingraham appeared to be in a particularly good mood when speaking at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference ans why wouldn’t she be, enjoying her elevated status as the host of her brand new show on the Fox News Channel.
But when Ingrahan ventured into waters that saw her comparing liberals to herpes, she drew plenty of consternation from the left.
“It’s great to be here at CPAC, or as liberals call it, the group that puts fun in the word dysfunctional,” she told the conservative crowd on Friday, which bristled at the good natured jab.
“C’mon, you gotta be self-deprecating guys,” the Fox News host quipped, making for the perfect setup for what followed.
“A friend of mine who happens to be a religious figure said, ‘Laura, you’re talking to the CPAC people. You guys gotta have a good time. You gotta laugh,’” Ingraham said. “‘Remember what Tim Allen once said about the Clintons.’ I said, ‘What did Tim Allen say about the Clintons?’ I couldn’t remember the line. He said, ‘Well, you could apply it to liberals in general.’”
“Liberals are kind of like herpes,” she continued, “just when you think you have it beat, they come back again.”
“There’s no cure, you’ve just got to keep it at bay.”
The punchline drew cheers along with a few sympathetic groans.
Ingraham also compared President Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan in how the president is treated in the media.
“He’s mocked, as Reagan was,” she explained. “He’s ridiculed by the Hollywood establishment, as Reagan was … What he is is the president of all the people, the middle class, the forgotten men and women.”
