Liberals’ arguments have a tendency to fall apart like a house of cards under scrutiny.
ESPN host Jemele Hill made an appearance on ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday, and was confronted by co-host Meghan McCain about a tweet she wrote in September that accused President Trump’s cabinet, including Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, of being “white supremacists.”
The panel reminded Hill about her scathing tweet from last year, published a month after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottseville, Va. that left one woman dead of a vehicular attack.
“Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/other white supremacists,” Hill wrote at the time.
When asked if she still supported that statement, the SportsCenter co-host responded, “I still stand by what I said.”
She then expounded:
“I don’t think that his supporters are white supremacists. What I would say, though, is that they have the privilege, the benefit of privilege, to be able to distance and disassociate themselves from certain issues. Me as a woman of color, I feel vulnerable to certain behaviors, certain policies, certain things that he’s said and done.
“And so all of that was part of that response of feeling that vulnerability. If it doesn’t impact you directly, or if you don’t feel that, it’s probably harder for you to understand it.”
Hill added that “it feels like people of color are under attack. ”
McCain entered the conversation and asked the guest “What would you say to a Ben Carson, who’s working in the administration who’s obviously not white. Would you consider him a white supremacist?”
“No, I wouldn’t,” Hill replied. “As I’ve said, I don’t consider his supporters or everyone–”
“You also said you stand by what you tweeted, which is that he’s surrounded by white supremacists,” McCain interjected.
When Hill reasserted that she had not meant to call Carson a white supremacist, McCain fired back: “He works in the administration.”
“He does,” said Hill. “I didn’t say he’s surrounded by all — obviously Steve Bannon, I can go down the list of people who have at least played footsie with white suprematism.”
Hill was suspended for two weeks at ESPN last year for calling on her followers to boycott the Dallas Cowboys’ advertisers because team owner Jerry Jones promised to bench any player who refused to stand for the national anthem.
There’s nothing like watching liberals trip over their own logic.
