Appearances can be deceiving.
Susan Mize, 17, was arrested in Texas over the weekend after police discovered she had orchestrated a robbery and car-jacking to which she and a friend were victim, Fox News reports.
The petite high school student and her 20-year-old friend, Preston Barry, were robbed at gun- and knife-point on Friday. The suspects, 15 and 16 respectively, took Barry’s car and wallet and forced him to withdraw cash for them from an ATM.
According to Montgomery County Police Reporter, Mize had asked Barry if he wanted to earn $150 dollars driving two friends to Houston.
While waiting at a park, the two were joined in Barry’s vehicle by the 16-year-old black suspect. Shortly after, the 15-year-old white male suspect appeared wearing a mask and brandishing a gun.
The 15-year-old then took out a knife. The pair tied Barry up with Mize’s shoe laces and beat him several times before taking him to a nearby ATM for the cash.
Police said the suspects first drove Mize back to her home, and that she did not call 911. Barry then convinced them to take him to his house, saying he would get more money for them.
Once inside, Barry called told his parents what had happened and called the police.
Authorities later found the two suspects inside Barry’s vehicle. The firearms they used to threaten Barry turned out to be BB guns.
The investigation led police to conclude that Mize had lied about the incident. She admitted to setting her friend up, but said she had only wanted his wallet stolen. Tying Barry up and stealing his car weren’t part of her plan, she said.
According to Heavy.com, Mize is an aspiring model who claimed on Instagram to be represented by Explosion Model Management.
The agency’s founder, Melissa Garner, told Heavy.com:
“Susan is not one of my models officially since she didn’t sign a contract yet, I had met with her on the 14th before this all happened to see if she would be a good fit.
It came as a shock to me when I found out what had happened because she seemed like the sweetest girl. I’m very sad to hear about the carjacking story.”
Garner added: “I was very interested in signing her, I thought she could be a great model.”
The teenager was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery Felony 1, Fox News reports. She is being held on a $75,000 bond.
