Police in Connecticut posted an announcement Saturday asking if anyone was looking for their lost stash of heroin after staff at a restaurant found bags of the drug in a dining booth.
The Facebook post by the North Haven Police Department titled LOST AND FOUND invites the owner of the narcotics to stop by the station to pick up their illegal drugs. The mystery diner left a large bag behind in the booth of a restaurant on Universal Drive in North Haven, which workers discovered while cleaning the patron’s booth, reports FOX 61.
Inside the large bag, police found 100 smaller bags full of heroin doses.
“If anyone is looking for your lost Heroin, please contact the North Haven Police,” says the Facebook post from the North Haven Police Department. “We would like to speak with you!”
Police Departments will often issue humorous Facebook posts involving narcotics, which always have the potential to dupe drug dealers into turning themselves in.
The Newark Police Department in California posted to Facebook in May 2017 asking drug dealers to bring their meth in to make sure the product was not “laced with deadly gluten.” The post offered to run tests on people’s drug supplies to check the purity of their illicit narcotics.
“Is your meth laced with deadly gluten?” said the post from the Newark Police Department. “Not sure? Bring your meth down to the PD and we will test it for you for free!”
Drug overdoses, fueled by substances like heroin, are now the leading cause of accidental death for Americans under age 50, killing more than 64,000 people in 2016, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Opioid overdoses made up a staggering 66 percent of all drug overdose deaths in 2016, surpassing the annual number of lives lost to breast cancer.
