While we search for possible motives for the heinous Parkland high school shooting on Wednesday, various leads have surfaced, as they often do in the aftermath of such atrocities.
As reported here earlier, the suspected killer Nikolas Cruz, was reported by Fox News to have “followed” Syrian resistance groups on social media, as well as sharing disturbing Instagram posts brandishing guns and knives.
In a cryptic post, he even discussed searching for the meaning of “Allahu Akbar” (meaning “glory to Allah,” in Arabic.)
“Well at least we now know what it means when a sand durka says ‘allahu Akbar’ ??????” he wrote.
Another politically charged reference has surfaced amongst Cruz’s social media chatter. Going by the name Nikolas Cruz, he made a death threat to his classmates and referenced the violent socialist group Antifa.
“Im going to watch them sheep fall f**k antifa i wish to kill as many as i can,” Cruz wrote.
Caution: This can be interpreted any number of ways. It can be interpreted as a condemnation of antifa; but the issue is whether he means it in terms of antifa not killing more people or if he merely has animosity against the group.
In an apparent contradiction, Cruz’s Instagram profile shows him wearing a MAGA hat and an antifa-style bandana.
It isn’t the only time Cruz has sported such a bandana; it is unclear if it is an homage to antifa or obscuring his identity (again, this his on his own Instagram page).
It is also unclear as a former member of the Jr. ROTC, expelled from school for “disciplinary reasons,” what his intention was for undertaking such military training. Was it because he believed he was sometime of infiltrator, or was it because he believed in right-wing causes?
As Heavy.com reported, it is unclear what Cruz’s actual voter registration is amidst talk on conservative social media that he was a registered Democrat. As the website pointed out:
Democrat based on the voter registration of a Nicolas Cruz in Florida whose birthday is in May 1998. However, the Broward sheriff said in a press conference that the Nikolas Cruz accused of being the school shooter was born in September 1998, not in May (you can watch that comment below). The accused school shooter’s name is spelled Nikolas, not Nicolas, although many in the news media initially went with the latter. The New York Times also verified Cruz’s Instagram page.
Additional reports about the suspect Cruz is that the murder weapon was legally bought and in his possession. As Fox News reported:
Police said Cruz used an AR-15 and had multiple magazines on him during the shooting. Cruz’s attorney, Jim Lewis, told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that the firearm was legally bought and Cruz already owned the gun when he moved in with a friend, a junior at the Parkland high school, three months ago.
“It was his gun,” Lewis told the newspaper. “The family made him keep it in a locked gun cabinet in the house but he had a key.”
Nikolas Cruz is alive and will answer for any murders he may have committed. It is certain we will get a clearer picture of any actual motives that the shooter may have had while snuffing out so many lives on that tragic day.
