Police are expected to announce that they have uncovered enough evidence to prosecute Netanyahu for corruption in two separate cases, reports the Jerusalem Post. Israel’s attorney general would have to evaluate the evidence and then decide whether to move forward with a prosecution.

The recommendation comes after a 14-month investigation into Netanyahu’s alleged involvement in bribery and a quid pro quo scheme. In one probe, Netanyahu allegedly received over $100,000 in gifts from Hollywood mogul Arnon Milchan and other wealthy associates.

The other investigation involves the so-called “Yediot Aharonot affair,” in which Netanyahu allegedly reached an agreement with the publisher of a newspaper to receive favorable coverage, in exchange for supporting a bill to weaken a competitor of that paper.

Netanyahu has denied wrongdoing in both cases and has questioned the integrity of high-ranking officers handling the investigations.

Criminal charges would not immediately affect Netanyahu’s position as prime minister but could bring intense pressure for him to resign.
