ESPN’s Jemele Hill continued her race baiting of President Donald Trump, calling his rhetoric “racial pornography,” Sunday on MSNBC’s “Politics Nation.”
Host Al Sharpton asked Hill about Trump’s state of the union comments and she took it as an opportunity to bash the president and make the conversation about race, while disrespecting American patriotism.
“I wasn’t surprised, and I think this is going to be probably a constant thing for the president, because it’s a very easy dog whistle, it’s low-hanging fruit. It’s what I like to call racial pornography,” Hill said. “Because it’s a way to stoke his base. Look, in a weird way, I think it’s kind of weirdly brilliant because he has been able to hijack the entire conversation and to make this about patriotism.”

Hill went on a Twitter rant in September, calling Trump a “white supremacist” and accusing other whites of ignoring his behavior and embracing “white privilege.” She also called Trump the most “ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime.”
She was later suspended for two weeks for a second violation of ESPN’s social media guidelines after she told fans to boycott the Dallas Cowboys and their advertisers for their stance on the national anthem protests. After her return to the network, Hill was taken off SportsCenter and reassigned to the website ‘The Undefeated.” She maintains the move was entirely her decision.
“This was definitely 100 percent my choice,” she said. “The Undefeated is a natural home for me given it’s a site about the intersection between sports, African Americans, race, culture. It meshes all those things that I think are even more vital to discuss. And I wanted to do it on a platform that was deeply aligned with who I was as a person.”
Former ESPN president John Skipper issued a company wide memo in September to remind anchors and staff of the network’s mission statement and said they are not a political organization. They cover sports, period. “ESPN is not a political organization,” Skipper wrote. “ESPN is about sports.”
