Passive-aggressive catfight alert! There’s an ugly feud brewing between “Today” show hosts Hoda Kotb and Megyn Kelly, insiders claim.
Hoda hosts the show from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. with Savannah Guthrie, while Kelly takes over at 9 a.m. Apparently, there’s bad blood between the two NBC stars, so they’ve taken to making snide, snarky attacks on-air.
The feud apparently began on January 2, when Megyn congratulated Kotb after she was named to replace Matt Lauer, who was fired for sexual harassment.
On the show, Kelly referenced a “dark period” in Kotb’s life 10 years ago, when she underwent surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer. “We talked recently about how 10 years ago, your life was very different. You were going through a dark period,” Kelly said. “Do you take a moment on a day like this to stop and think, ‘Holy moly’?”
It seems Kelly was awkwardly trying to say that great things can happen even after terrible hardships like a life-threatening illness. But NBC News insiders say Kotb was upset that Kelly insensitively brought up her health crisis.
“Everybody in the control room gasped when Megyn brought up Hoda’s ‘dark period,’ because many viewers likely won’t know exactly what she was referring to,” a source told Page Six. “That comment was awkward, mean-spirited. It really stung.”
Now, Kotb’s production team (which is different from Kelly’s) has hit back at Megyn by reminding viewers of the time an annoyed Jane Fonda shut her down for asking about her plastic surgeries. Fonda was on the show to promote her new movie when Kelly abruptly pried about her plastic surgery.
A stunned Fonda shot Kelly a disgusted look before retorting: “We really want to talk about that now?”
Last week, Fonda appeared on the “Today” show with her “Grace and Frankie” co-star Lily Tomlin. Kotb asked Fonda how long the two actresses had known each other.
Fonda replied: “Fifty years — a long time.” That’s when Tomlin joked: “I think before your first face-lift!”
An unamused Fonda quipped, “Who are you? Megyn Kelly?”
Kotb and Guthrie then burst out laughing, and Hoda’s production team quickly tweeted out the footage that mocked Kelly:

Kelly’s morning show debut has been rocked by other awkward celebrity interviews and mediocre ratings.
Last week, a former writer for “Megyn Kelly Today” who was recently fired accused executives of enabling a “toxic and demeaning environment.” An NBC insider corroborated some of the fired employee’s claims.
“The working environment on ‘Megyn Kelly Today’ is completely toxic,” the insider said. “It is hypocritical that a show that has positioned itself as a safe place for those who are victims, has staff that feel like they are being harassed and abused.”
