A mountain peak in New Hampshire will experience temperatures falling to 100 degrees below zero due to wind chill, a group of meteorologists announced Friday.

Mount Washington, the highest mountain peak in New Hampshire, will experience dangerously cold temperatures as a bomb cyclone hits the northeast, the New York Post reported.  While the real temperature on the peak will reach forty below zero, the gusts of wind will potentially drop that temperature down to a stunning 100 below zero.

“Frigid temperatures in combination winds sustained above hurricane force will allow wind chill values to fall as low as 100 degrees below zero which will cause frostbite on exposed skin in less than one minute,” Calebu Meute, a Mount Washington Observatory meteorologist, wrote.

Already, those on the mountain experienced temperatures falling to 26 below zero, which were actually 70 degrees below zero with the wind chill added; winds even picked up to 122 miles per hour.  Even if bundled up in extreme layers, a few minutes can still cause a person’s extremities to go numb, according to The New York Times.

“We’re not necessarily the coldest in the country; we’re not necessarily the windiest — it’s the combination that we have of the winds and the temperatures and a lot of fog and a lot of snow,” another meteorologist Mike Carmon told The New York Times.
