Mitch McConnell throws snarky shade at Steve Bannon

Who knew the longtime Republican senator had it in him?

Shortly after a public feud blew up between former presidential strategist Steve Bannon and Donald Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s team fired off a not-so-subtle tweet.

President Trump sent a scathing rebuke to disparaging comments made by Steve Bannon in a new book about the administration. The quotes allegedly made by Bannon paint his former boss and friend in an unflattering light to say the least, and Trump wasted no time launching one of his notorious and brutal counterpunches.

The battle blew up Wednesday’s news cycle, and while pearl-clutching political pundits breathlessly weighed in, McConnell’s team chimed in with a reaction of its own that didn’t require words.

Incumbent McConnell is no friend of Bannon who views himself as a champion for those who seek anti-establishment candidates for the Republican Party. And while the McConnell Gif didn’t outwardly address Bannon, the timing and history between the two made the snarky tweet’s connotation clear.

It’s “pretty clear,” all right.

“Connell’s tweet not only set off Republicans, but confused many liberals who didn’t want to like it, but just couldn’t help themselves. CNN’s Cillizza even put McConnell in the running for “troll of the year.”

Welcome to 2018 folks!
