Perhaps Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s behavior in costing a passenger her seat on a United Airlines flight should not come as a surprise.
The Texas Democrat was once named the “meanest” member of Congress.
A Washingtonian magazine’s biennial survey bestowed the titles of “meanest” and “show horse” on Lee in its “Best & Worst of Congress” list in 2014.
Lee made headlines last week after a school teacher, who had cashed in her miles with United Airlines to purchase a first class ticket, said she was bumped from her seat which was given to the Democrat lawmaker. Lee claimed she knew nothing of the preferential treatment and even suggested Jean-Marie Simon made it an issue because of her race. The airline later claimed it had apologized to the teacher, who refuted the claim.

Lee played the race card in this incident but it is not her first airline dustup.
According to the Houston Chronicle, “Lee’s former executive office assistant said the congresswoman flipped her lid when she boarded a flight that did not have the seafood special she had wanted,” with the lawmaker allegedly declaring, “Don’t you know who I am? I’m Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Where is my seafood meal? I know it was ordered!”
Lee’s former aides detailed the Democrat’s abusive behavior, personal insults and arrogance as she overloaded staff with work while treating them like personal servants.
“You don’t understand. I am a queen, and I demand to be treated like a queen,” she reportedly once told an event organizer.
A Houston Chronicle study in 2011 revealed Lee had the “highest turnover among staff in the Houston delegation over the past decade.” One former aide claimed she had thrown a cell phone at him, others detailed how she used them as personal valets – driving her to late night hair appointments – as well as demanded she be traeted as royalty.
“Who the **** do they think they are?” she allegedly asked after an aide said Houston area company CEO’s questioned her request for a meeting. “I’m the congresswoman.”
The liberal lawmaker came under fire earlier this year when it was disclosed that Lee’s campaign paid out nearly $10,000 of taxpayer money for Super Bowl tickets.

The Texas Democrat even took a knee during a speech on the House floor to show her solidarity with NFL players who have been disrespecting the flag and the nation by kneeling during the playing of the national anthem.
