MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough proved – again – how liberals fail to see what they just don’t want to see.
The “Morning Joe” host sang the praises of Obamacare, calling the policy “extraordinarily popular” during a segment on Thursday’s broadcast.
“Even though the enrollment period has been cut in half, and even though the White House and the federal government run by Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress have done everything to stop Obamacare, everything possible to destroy Obamacare, enrollment is almost as high as I believe last year,” Scarborough said.
“It’s been extraordinarily popular, despite the fact that the federal government, Donald Trump, Republicans in the House, Republicans in the Senate are doing everything in their power to stop people from enrolling” he added. “Well, they’re doing it, and they’re doing it in pretty damn high numbers.”
Never mind that former President Barack Obama’s signature health care law ended existing health care plans for many Americans who were famously promised that they could keep their health care plan and doctor. PolitiFact even named Obama’s promise the “lie of the year” in 2013.
Premiums for Obamacare plans have skyrocketed with many doubling between 2013 and 2017 as choices also continued to shrink.
This week’s sweeping GOP tax overhaul eliminated the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate requiring the purchase of health insurance at the risk of paying a fine.
“Under ObamaCare, if Americans didn’t buy the kind of health insurance that Washington thought they should buy, they were punished with a tax penalty,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wrote in an opinion piece for Fox News.
“But if the plans available under ObamaCare are not affordable or not desirable, the blame lies with the failing law itself. The last people who should be fined or penalized are the working Americans whom ObamaCare is letting down,” he added. “That’s why the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act eliminates this key provision of ObamaCare. It’s past time that Washington let Americans purchase the health insurance that works for them.”
But MSNBC’s Scarborough warned Republicans that repealing the law without a replacement would “crush” them in the 2018 midterm elections.
“Front page of The New York Times has a lot of great stories here, fascinating stories,” Scarborough said.
“First of all, sign ups jump for Obamacare. People are voting with their feet here. And if Republicans believe they’re going to repeal this law without having something in place to replace it, they are making a mistake that will crush them in 2018,” he added. “Mark it down, Republicans. Just mark it down.”
