Fox News host snaps at David Clarke: Segment turns ugly after he criticizes John Lewis

Former Sheriff David Clarke shut down Fox News’ liberal host Eboni Williams while discussing Congressman John Lewis’ move to boycott the opening of a civil rights museum because President Trump was there.

“No one cares what John Lewis is doing,” Clarke told Fox News. “He’s been reduced to being a caricature in that he has to pull a political stunt like this. He can’t even honor a civil rights museum opening!”

Clarke, the former sheriff of Milwaukee County in Wisconsin, started off by dismissing Lewis’ status as a civil rights icon, by asking “John who?”

That sarcastic quip infuriated Eboni Williams, a former Democratic strategist who despises Trump.

“John Lewis — he was bloodied on the Selma bridge when he was trying to protest voting rights and organizing sit-ins,” Williams spat back.

John Lewis rose to fame in 1965 when he was beaten to a bloody pulp — by Democratic segregationists — while marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.

Lewis and his supporters have since used his participation in the 1960s civil rights movement to inoculate himself against attacks on his dismal record of public service on behalf of African-Americans.

Like many black Americans, David Clarke applauded Lewis’ bravery 52 years ago, but wants to know: What have you done for us lately?

“John Lewis has become one of the most irrelevant members of Congress,” Clarke said, pointing to the record poverty and crime rates in the black community with Democrats at the helm.

Lewis, 77, made headlines after announcing he would not attend the opening of a civil rights museum in Mississippi because President Trump was attending. Lewis has also repeatedly slammed Trump as an “illegitimate president” and boycotted his inauguration.

Clarke said Lewis’ latest boycott was another self-serving PR ploy to deflect attention from his dismal record. “He has to pull a political stunt like this to get news coverage, that’s how bad this is!” Clarke said.

While Eboni Williams insisted that Lewis’ record on civil rights is “undisputed,” Sheriff Clarke isn’t the only black American who says Lewis has done little to help the black community.

Author Mason Weaver, a former Black Panther, recently slammed Lewis as a clueless stooge for the Democratic Party.

Weaver said Lewis used his civil-rights fame to get rich and powerful while doing little to help African-Americans escape the clutches of poverty and crime. “He’s gotten rich as black America has gotten more poor,” Weaver said.

Weaver also trashed Lewis for joining the Democratic Party after Democratic segregationists viciously beat him in 1965.

Weaver said the Democratic Party has exploited identity politics to secure the support of the black community, but has done little to improve black poverty or crime.

“Lewis is a civil rights turncoat who collaborated with the Democratic Party to oppress black America,” Weaver said (see video). “After they beat his behind on that bridge, he got up and joined them. He joined the oppressors and became a stooge for them!”
