E! News’ Maria Menounos shares video from 24 hours after brain surgery that’s almost too hard to believe

Maria Menounos celebrated the six-month anniversary of her brain surgery by posting an Instagram throwback video.

“On my 6 month anniversary I wanted to share this, so if you are about to go through this you can see with your own eyes what it can be like,” Menounos wrote on her Instagram (see below).

The video was taken one day after Menounos underwent surgery to remove a golf ball-sized tumor.

“This video was taken 24 hours after my brain surgery,” she recounted. “I still can’t believe that you can eat and speak normally so soon after. It was hard to keep my eyes open bc i was seeing double at this point.”

Menounos said she posted the video to encourage other cancer patients, to let them know things get better.

Menounos had surgery in June 2017 while caring for her mom Litsa, who was battling Stage 4 brain cancer. MRI scans show Maria’s mom’s cancer is stable for now.

This video was taken 24 hours after my brain surgery. I still can’t believe that you can eat and speak normally so soon after. It was hard to keep my eyes open bc i was seeing double at this point. I’ve received so many messages from people saying that my story has helped them, and on my 6 month anniversary I wanted to share this so if you are about to go through this you can see with your own eyes what it can be like. Everyone is different…but if I can ease your fears a bit I would like to. Also want to stress the importance of friends! @alyssawallerce my best friend of 26 years was by my side for months and she fed me this first meal (broth)…it’s a journey and you need help so Don’t be afraid to ask for it. Forever grateful to alyssa and all my amazing friends who helped me through this!

Menounos was diagnosed in February 2017 after an MRI showed a golf ball-sized meningioma brain tumor. Maria’s doctor was able to remove 99.9% of her tumor, which was benign, but there’s still a 6% to 7% chance it could come back.

After her diagnosis, Maria stepped down as co-anchor of E! News – a job she had held since 2015 – to focus on her health and start a family. Maria is a veteran entertainment reporter who previously worked at Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight.

Menounos, who’s engaged to longtime fiancé Keven Undergaro, hopes to have a baby soon — something she put off for years as she chased her career ambitions.

The brunette beauty’s fans were shocked by her health scare because she’s a lifelong fitness fanatic who always followed a healthy diet and worked out every day.

Looking back, Maria, 39, said the tumor was a “gift” that forced her to slow down and enjoy life instead of always rushing toward the next goal.

“I think this was a gift because I needed to change my life,’ Menounos told Megyn Kelly. “I needed to change the way I did everything.”
