After a frantic U.S. news media breathlessly reported Michael Flynn was ready to strike a deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller in his Russia investigation, there’s another wrinkle that blows the ‘Trump is about to be impeached’ narrative to smithereens.
As we know, Flynn pleaded guilty to making a false statement to the FBI – a common charge in investigations that have “nothing” – both a sign that the former National Security Adviser may be ready to cut a plea deal in exchange for “dirt” on the Trump campaign and leverage for the Special Counsel.
When the report hit that Flynn was set to testify that a senior official for “candidate” Trump had directed him to contact Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, it ignited a media firestorm that even roiled markets. There was murmured talk of an imminent impeachment.
It turns out, the ABC News report was false.

Many believed that the official implicated in the report was none other than his son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner. Again, this appears to be untrue. As Fox News’ John Roberts reports:
A source with “full knowledge” of the investigation told Roberts that the unnamed “senior Trump official” is K.T. McFarland. Last time we checked, K.T. McFarland is not Jared Kushner, whom Mueller has contacted in connection with the Russia investigation.
McFarland, formerly the deputy national security adviser, resigned from her post in April.
