‘Today!’ segment of Matt Lauer pantsless before 4 ladies is awkward. Guthrie’s comment? Super awkward.

Matt Lauer has had a whirlwind day. After going from journalist and morning show host over his twenty year career, he has witnessed it all collapse before his very eyes in a matter of hours.

The news hit Wednesday morning that Lauer had been fired after being accused of  “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.” NBC’s decision was based on its determination that there was enough cause to believe the alleged behavior was not an isolated incident.

Today! hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb made the “sad” announcement that Lauer would no longer be with the long-running morning show.

Samantha Guthrie, ironically, had taken part in a sketch with Lauer earlier, as reported by the Daily Caller’s reporter-at-large Benny Johnson. Behold the awkwardness, in full:

As Johnson narrates:

“Drink it in ladies!” One of them asks “Again Matt?” Savannah Guthrie tells Lauer “Stop it. You’re making me lactate.”

In a year full of sexual harassment accusations taking down journalists such as Charlie Rose and several mainstream media producers, who could have seen Matt Lauer’s firing for such offenses coming?

Well, everyone, apparently.
