Popular conservative blogger at Gateway Pundit arrested after controversial speech

Tuesday night a popular right-wing personality was arrested after a run-in with liberal protesters.

Lucian B. Wintrich, who works as White House correspondent for The Gateway Pundit, was at the University of Connecticut delivering his “It’s OK to be white” speech when a fight broke out, CNN reports.

The violence erupted when a woman walked up to the podium and grabbed the paper copy of Wintrich’s speech while he debated with a protester.

As the woman went off into the crowd of about 100 spectators, Wintrich followed after, pulling at her backpack and attempting to get the paper back.

After this, other members of the crowd joined the fray before the scuffle was broken up.

Wintrich was escorted out of the room, taken into police custody and charged with misdemeanor breach of peace. He was released after posting a $1,000 bond.

The Gateway Pundit writer took to Twitter to share his side of the story.

“It’s really unfortunate that some of the kids at @UConn felt the need to be violent and disruptive during a speech that focused on how the leftist media is turning Americans against each other,” Wintrich wrote. “Tonight proved my point.”

No injuries were reported. Stephanie Retz, a spokeswoman for UConn, said one student was arrested for allegedly breaking a window. Campus police are investigating a smoke bomb thrown into the building as the crowd left the event.

In light of the abrupt interruption of the meeting, Gateway Pundit published the full text of Wintrich’s “It’s OK to be white” speech online.

In one of the most notable passages, Wintrich says:

“That is the sort of environment we are living in, where half of the country has normalized aggression against any conservative, any Trump supporter, so long as they claim that they’re confronting a ‘Nazi’. The real irony here is that after their confrontation, they are the ones who claim they feel unsafe afterward”

He then goes on to describe the left’s negative reaction to the phrase “It’s OK to be white.”

“Remember: all these posters say is that it’s okay to be white. They don’t say it makes you good, or better than other people, just that’s it’s OK and not a problem, just like having any other skin color isn’t a problem

And yet, lo and behold – the left seem to have an immense problem with it!

At the University of Alberta, the president of the school called the posters an “incident of racism” and promised to investigate. Racism! What could be more anti-racist than this slogan?

He also said it ‘targets and marginalizes individuals or groups.’ How?? Which groups? Who does it target?

At Tulane University, an administrator said the posters ‘do not speak for the university.’

I guess that means Tulane thinks it isn’t OK to be white!”

Right-wing activist Jack Posobiec also came to Wintrich’s defense, as did Ann Coulter.

Meanwhile, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro blamed the woman who stole Wintrich’s speech, but also said the blogger overreacted.
