If given the opportunity, British singer Morrissey said he would kill President Donald Trump.
…for the betterment of mankind, of course.
The German publication der Spiegel asked Morrissey if he’d push a button, knowing the end result would be that it killed Trump.
“I would, for the safety of humanity,” Morrissey responded. “It has nothing to do with my personal opinion of his face or his family, but in the interest of humanity I would push.”
As for how the recording artist feels about the president, his band mates often appear onstage wearing matching “F*ck Trump” T-shirts and he has concluded shows telling concertgoers to “stop Trump.”
The former Smiths frontman defended Kevin Spacey, telling der Spiegel the actor was “unnecessarily attacked.” He has also blamed the victims of Harvey Weinstein, saying they “play along” and later “feel embarrassed or they do not like it. And then they turn around and say: ‘I was attacked, I was surprised, I was dragged into the room.'”
He also downplayed sexual harassment, saying during an interview with The Sunday Times that “often it can be just a pathetic attempt at courtship.”
As for Trump, Morrissey said he was a media creation.
“The American media helped Trump, yes, they first created it,” he said. “Whether they criticize him or laugh at him, he does not care, he just wants to see his picture and his name. The American media have shot themselves in the leg.”
The 58-year-old performer said he “never” expected Trump to be elected, adding that he has “exhausted the world” since becoming president.
“He grabs after everything like a little child,” Morrissey said. “He is not a leader. He is a vermin.”
The reaction on social media included more than one reference to the Secret Service, and included fans very disappointed over his defense of sexual predators.
