Dems finally have some young blood to run in the 2018 election and they’re going for broke in the heart of Texas.
Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke has officially filed to challenge incumbent Republican and proud conservative Ted Cruz, the Hill reported.
“Today’s filing is not only a chance to recommit ourselves to this critical race, but to recommit to running it in the right way: being present, accountable, candid, transparent and powering each step of the way by people not PACs,” O’Rourke said on Monday.
O’Rourke has been a Democrat U.S. congressman since 2013 and revealed his plans for challenging Cruz last spring.
Cruz did not take the challenge lying down.

Cruz’s March tweet signals he will likely not be taking his red state for granted and will soon come out swinging.
O’Rouke has held 85 public events and visited 155 counties since announcing his plans in March, the Hill reported. The El Paso native is also an outspoken critic of Trump’s proposed border wall.
The 45-year-old Dem has raised an impressive 2.8 million, but it pales in comparison to Cruz’s current $5.7 million war chest.
As a presidential hopeful, Cruz was arguably the only Republican presidential candidate who gave Donald Trump a run for his money. The two often sparred, and at times the rhetoric became nasty before Trump came out on top as the nominee.
Cruz has since proved he can put country before hurt feelings and politics, and has often been a vocal supporter of President Trump.
Currently, the conservative senator is pushing tax reform.

He’s also showing off his often humorous side, while fundraising:

With Cruz’s conservative roots, humor, high intellect, and second-to-none debate skills, O’Rouke truly has an uphill battle ahead. Especially considering the fact that no Democrat has won a Senate election in Texas since 1988, according to the Hill.
