NFL superstar Cam Newton set social media on fire on Tuesday after sharing what he is thankful for.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback shared his mugshot from his 2008 arrest for stealing a laptop and said thanks for his “second chance.”
“On this date I thought my life and my career was over and the fact that I had shamed my family with the media coverage surrounding this situation I vowed to myself on this day (9 yrs ago) that ‘I will be better from this situation,’” he wrote on Instagram.

“What you must learn from this story is this; if you live your life listening to what other people are saying you should do and not your own, shame on you!” he said.
Newton has gone on to be of of the top players in the NFL and an ambassador for the sport.
The Panthers star hosts a Thanksgiving Jam for underprivileged youths yearly, including in 2015 when he was on stage dancing with the kids before their dinner was served.
He also angered some progressives last year when he denied there was racism in football.
In his Instagram statement on Tuesday he gave thanks to God for guiding his life.
“I can honestly say to you today that no one gave me a chance to succeed down bad in my situation, and if I would have listened to those people that said I can’t, who knows where I would be today. So I’m extremely thankful for God’s mercy, grace and favor over my life. So if I can do it with my circumstances, surely you can do it and be whatever you want to be with hard work and persistence. — Love,” he wrote.

“And people wonder why I play the game the way I do, act the way I act, dress the way I dress, and even live the way I live because in some people’s eyes ‘I’m not supposed to be here’ but in my eyes I’m not going to have any regrets with the second chance God has given me,” he added in a side note.
It has garnered more than 200,000 likes in the 24 hours since he shared his story.
Many on social media loved it.
“Truly a role model to me,” one person wrote.
“Great story and is very big of you to be so transparent, especially how the world is today! I respect you!!!” wrote another.
“Praise God!! Thank you for sharing your testimony! He is real and He is still in the miracle making business! Keep being unequivocally Cam!!” added another fan.
“Now I like you even more as a person and a football player,” another Instagram user said. “Thanks for the honesty. God bless you.”
Others were angry.
He did it, but the charges were dropped. That isn’t a redemption story. It is story how football players get away with criminal activity. Did he pay for the laptop he STOLE?
