Are Democrats finally coming to their senses?
As the left unanimously calls on Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore to drop out of the race over sexual abuse allegations, at least some liberals are realizing they’d be hypocrites if they didn’t demand similar public censure for their Democrat heroes–including former Vice President Joe Biden.
Biden’s tendency to get close and physical with members of the opposite sex has made him the object of many conservative memes. It has also fueled mockery about him being a sexual assaulter or pedophile.
Such speculation has never been substantiated, but photographs and video recordings over the years have raised questions about the former Vice President’s touching of women and girls.
Biden has time and again been seen to caress, massage, rub, and whisper into the ears of both grown women and young girls. The incidents in question have often been in public and involved the family of well-known figures, such as the niece of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the wife of former Defense Secretary Ash Carter.
In recent weeks, Biden has seemingly attempted to position himself as a potential 2020 presidential candidate. But Huffington Post Washington Bureau Chief Amanda Terkel believes that wouldn’t be a good idea.
“Biden is the wrong guy to bear the standard of any party purporting to speak for the victims of unaccountable power,” Terkel wrote in an article titled “Joe Biden 2020 Is A Terrible Idea In A Post-Weinstein America.”
The Huffington Post author went on to list several instances in which Biden’s caressing of women and girls clearly made the recipients of his affection feel uncomfortable.
And the Daily Beast’s Erin Gloria Ryan penned an article titled “Dear Lord Would Joe Biden Be a Terrible Candidate for These Times,” in which she argues the former Vice President’s questionable behavior is public enough as to be damning in an election.
“This isn’t just based on whispers or rumors; there are so many photos and clips of Biden looming over, or massaging, or gently nuzzling, or whispering to, or kissing women and girls who don’t seem all that into it,” Ryan wrote. “Right now, a society grappling with men, power, sexual exploitation, and consent does not need Joe Biden’s highlight reel playing alongside Rep. Jackie Speier’s pledge to fight sexual harassment on the Hill.”
Indeed, the public nature of these acts is what makes them so alarming to onlookers. It could beg the question: If Biden is brazen enough to be this way in front of the cameras, what’s going on behind closed doors?
But that’s the danger when you have a party that will sweep any indecency under the bed for the sake of political expediency. Just ask Bill Clinton.
Are the Democrats on a course to repentance?
