Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski faced off with CNN’s Chris Cuomo in a fiery discussion about alleged contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.
“You’ve said before ‘we’ve had no contacts, nobody from our campaign – nobody, nowhere, no how,'” Cuomo said Monday. “We now know that’s not true.”
The CNN host then confronted Lewandowski about statements he had made that he had no knowledge of anyone within the Trump campaign having contacts with Russian officials.
“You said there were no contacts. But there are now many contacts and you are part of it in terms of a chain of communication,” Cuomo said. “Do you have any new recollections of what contacts were made with your campaign that were involved with Russian interference?”
“Let me be as clear as I can be, Chris,” Lewandowski replied. “I’ve said this many, many, many times. I have never, to the best of my knowledge, ever communicated with anybody who was a Russian, a Russian agent, a Russian supporter or somebody who was from the Russian government in any way, shape or form.”
“How could you know that?” Cumo asked.
Lewandowski repeated that his response was “to the best of my knowledge” and that it is not possible to simply determine who is a Russian spy.
“Maybe you’re a Russian agent,” he told Cuomo, who was naming examples like former Trump campaign foreign policy advisers Carter Page and George Papadopoulos. When Lewandowski countered that both men were US citizens as far as he knew, Cuomo replied that “being an American citizen isn’t the standard.”
Cuomo dismissed every attempt by Lewandowski to turn attention to wrongdoing by Hillary Clinton’s campaign, including recent reports that exposed the connections of the campaign and the Democratic National Committee in funding the infamous Trump dossier.
“Please get your facts right,” Lewandowski shot at Cuomo as the two tangled over the subject for several minutes with Cuomo asking if the former Trump campaign manager was even telling the truth.
