Three NFL players took a knee as the national anthem played at the New York Giants game against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, according to multiple reports.

As “The Star Spangled Banner” played at Levi Stadium over Veterans Day weekend, Eric Reid and Marquise Goodwin knelt on the San Francisco side. They were joined by Olivier Vernon on the New York side. No NFL players knelt during the early games on Sunday, according to the New York Daily News.

Since Colin Kaepernick’s 2016 decision to kneel during the national anthem to protest inequality in American society, many NFL players have been taking a knee in solidarity. Their numbers grew after the president lashed out, criticizing protesters for disrespecting the flag, the country, and those who fought and died to defend it.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he’s fired!” Trump said at a rally in September.

Vice President Mike Pence has also demonstrated his displeasure with those who feel the need to kneel during the playing of the national anthem, even going so far as to walk out of a game.

After walking out of a Colts game against the 49ers in early October, Pence explained that he “will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem,” adding, “While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I don’t think it’s too much to ask NFL players to respect the Flag and our National Anthem.”
