The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held its ninth annual Governor’s Awards on Saturday night and there wasn’t a single reference about sexual abuse or other inappropriate behavior.
Not a one, according to the Daily Mail.
“The Governors Awards is an annual event celebrating awards conferred by the Academy’s Board of Governors,” according to the Oscar website.
With A-list actors and movie makers on stage, powerful voices capable of reaching the far corners of the globe, it was business as usual in the aftermath of the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal that has rocked the movie industry to it’s core.
Hell, even one of the presenters was accused of sexually harassing an intern in 1985.
Dustin Hoffman, who kind of, sort of apologized for his behavior, presented an award at the event Saturday evening to cinematographer Owen Roizman, the DM reported.

But with such mega-stars as actress Angelina Jolie on hand, a powerful advocate for social causes, surely she spoke of the ongoing scandal amid an alleged sea change in the movie industry.
Surely?
Nope. Nary a word.

Not even Jennifer Lawrence, who is “notoriously outspoken” about her political and social opinions, as the Daily Mail noted. The actress was mum on the wave of sexual abuse accusations flooding Hollywood.
Republican politicians are not spared the indignity of Hollywood’s barbs over policy matters, but sexual predators are given a reprieve?

Emma Stone, the “La La Land” actress who won Best Actress at the 2017 Academy Awards while wearing a small golden Planned Parenthood logo pin on her formal gown, was equally silent.
What gives? Was a directive issued to participants not to speak on the scandal?

2017 Governors Awards honorees were French director Agnes Varda, Mexican film director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, cinematographer Owen Roizman, director and actor Charles Burnett and actor Donald Sutherland.
