President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte sang on stage at the request of President Donald Trump, who is presently in the Philippines for an official visit.
Duterte sang “Ikaw” with Pilita Corrales Sunday at the gala dinner of the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, according to local media. “Ladies and gentlemen, I sang an invited duet with Ms. Pilita Corrales upon the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the United States,” the Philippine president revealed.
A video tweeted by lawyer Karen Jimeno captured the moment.

While Duterte’s relationship with the U.S. was strained under the Obama administration, ties have improved since Trump took office earlier this year.
The firebrand Filipino leader clashed with former President Barack Obama over questions of human rights violations in Duterte’s war on drugs, which has ended the lives of thousands of Filipinos. Duterte called Obama a “son of a whore” and told him to “go to hell.” The Trump administration has, however, been much more positively received by Duterte, who referred to himself as the administration’s “humble friend.”

The Trump administration has avoid criticizing Duterte’s drug war, even going so far to praise his efforts. The U.S. has also been working with the Philippines to counter radical Islamic extremism, and Duterte has expressed his gratitude for America’s support in this campaign.
Trump’s visit to the Philippines is part of a five-country tour of Asia that has taken the president to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, and now the Philippines.
